19th century British Newspapers Online
19th Century British Library Newspapers is a joint effort between the British Library and Gale Cengage to make available digitized versions of key 19th Century British newspapers.
19th Century British Library Newspapers contains full runs of 70 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. The collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Special attention was paid to include newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism, and Home Rule. The penny papers aimed at the working and clerical classes are also present in the collection.
Newspapers of local interest include the full 100 years of the Hampshire & Portsmouth Telegraph, The Southampton Herald from 1830-1900 and the Isle of Wight Observer 1853-1900.
