Portchester
Portchester is noted for its castle which is situated on a low-lying promontory, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The nine acre site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and dates from early Roman times. The old village of Portchester lies close to the castle walls; most of Castle Street is a Conservation Area, and contains an interesting variety of buildings, predominantly 18th century.
