Cowplain
Cowplain lies to the North-East of Waterlooville on the main road about 2 miles south of Horndean. With a population in 1971 of 9,195, this small village grew because it lay on the Portsmouth coach route and was a suitable place to change the horses. Originally part of the Parish of Catherington, the village supposedly obtained its name from the 'Spotted Cow' inn, and the plain on which the village stood.
Further information on attractions to discover in the area and other interesting villages to visit is available. For information on public services for Cowplain please take a look at the Portsmouth local pages.
