Signage

External property and site signs / Directional signs / Information signs / Internal signs / Road maintenance signs / Other road signs / Building works project boards / Marketing identities / Other signs

Generally signage must:

Sign layout
  • be corporate blue with white text

  • include the logo in the bottom left corner*

  • use Gill Sans or Gill Sans Light fonts

  • use as few capital letters as possible, to comply with house style.

*Internal signage does not always need to include the logo.

Although blue signage is standard, there may sometimes be exceptional circumstances when signs need to depart from the usual application; for example, a change of base colour, eg to black, so that a sign remains in keeping with the style of a listed building.

Some examples of different signs are shown on this page. For information and guidance on site-specific signage contact Hampshire Printing Services' Graphics Team.

Signage for Recreation and Heritage sites must be agreed with the Marketing Manager. This includes countryside sites, museums, outdoor activity centres, arts centres, libraries and discovery centres. Contact the Marketing Manager by e-mail or telephone 01962 846880.

Schools should look at specific school signage guidance.

External property and site signs

These must be corporate blue with white text and feature the logo in the bottom left-hand corner. The typeface should be Gill Sans – use upper and lower case, not capitals. The shorter the panel width, the stronger the sign against possible vandalism.

The same panels can be post or wall fixed. Posts are available up to three metres long, allowing signs to be visible over tall fences and hedges.

External building signage should just state the name of the building and not the department name.

All signage should be approved by the Corporate Graphics Team before completion. Contact Hampshire Printing Services' Graphics Team.

Directional signs

External directional signs are also corporate blue with white text, but do not need to include the logo.

Information signs

Castle complex location signage has an illustrated perspective view on the corporate blue background. The logo appears in the bottom left corner.

Internal signs

Internal directional signs are also corporate blue with white text.

Road maintenance signs

Road sign

A set of six scheme sign boards was agreed in 2004 for use where highway maintenance is being carried out. Telephone 01962 847992 for more information.

Other road signs

County boundary signs incorporate the coat of arms rather than the logo.

For other road signage, please contact Philip Samms on 01962 847072.

Building works project boards

The title board and erection of the project boards are undertaken as part of the contract. The Council’s Property Services provide the top panel. The other panels are supplied by the main contractor and sub-contractor to the industry standard.

Marketing identities

Titchfield Haven sign

The logo must appear on entrance signs, which can also include the marketing identity logo. The example shown below is for a countryside service site.

Other signage

There are occasions when individual signs are required. Please contact the Corporate Communications Team for advice on what can be done.
