Designers should note that italic versions of all the font options within both families are available and acceptable to use. Please use the correct italic version – do not electronically italicise the Roman versions above. However, where italic versions are not available in Word, staff can use electronically italicised versions.
Typefaces help to provide consistency in our presentation to the public. The two corporate typefaces are Garamond and Gill Sans. They have been selected to ensure accessibility to the widest range of people, based on our Access for all guidance.
Gill Sans must be used for all signs, headings and other short pieces of text.
Garamond must be used for longer pieces of text such as letters and committee reports.
For more information on typefaces please refer to our Style guide and Access for all guidance.
If you haven’t got access to these typefaces, an acceptable alternative to Gill Sans is Arial and Garamond is Times Roman.
For designers and commercial suppliers, the preferred versions of both Gill Sans and Garamond are manufactured by Adobe Monotype.
