If you are communicating with a person who has a speech or language difficulty, then you should find out how the person prefers to communicate. You then need to use this system so that you can communicate with them,
When communicating with a person with a speech or language difficulty, remember the following points:
- don't pretend that you understand if you don't
- don't appear impatient, or hurry the person you are speaking with
- if the person is accompanied by an assistant, you must address the individual and not their assistant.
