Living History at Milestones
Milestones is Hampshire’s Living History Museum – an exciting adventure for all those who step in to this time capsule of social history. The dedicated team of costumed interpreters guide visitors as they journey back to Hampshire’s past.
What does ‘Living History’ mean?
For the visitor to Milestones it has many different meanings depending on who they are and when they visit.
For the thousands of school children it means the chance to use all their senses to find out how people dressed, spoke, worked and lived.
For the general museum visitor, they are offered the chance to suspend their disbelief while they travel back in time, perhaps to reminisce about their childhood or their parents’ childhood.
What any visitor to Milestones is offered however is the chance to talk and interact with the past, whether this be through demonstrations, stories, plays or conversations with the interpreter team.
What makes it ‘living’ I think, is the opportunity to challenge and ask questions about the past in order to make comparisons with the way we live today. Having someone in costume who has carried out extensive research into all manner of subjects provides this unique experience at Milestones.
Our way of interpreting the people of the past is informative, challenging and entertaining but it is also extremely respectful.
Our team is passionate about history and about breathing life into the past for our visitors.
