Paula (my wife) & I visited Milestones Museum for about the third time in a year and Paula has since about November 2009 become a member(with me as her Carer). The Adult membership rate is very reasonable. We live locally in Oakridge.

The photographic oportunities are good and varied. Last year we viewed the fabulous Wildlife Photographic winners prints exhibition-the standard and variety of age /equipment exceptional-hope you display next years too, please?

We stopped off at both the cafe before coming in (enjoying drinks, cake and freshly cooked hot scone-delicious!)

And also (a 1st for us)the Edwardian themed Public House for a half way round coffee -we took some photos of Landlady/ Barmaid (Person) with whom, along with the Railway workers we enjoyed good conversation).

We had earlier seen the railway workers climb aboard the steam engine "Woolmer" -a local military engine which having read the National Railway Museum's Curators blog describing it's journey down from Shildon was a big must see. We enjoyed our visit and hope to return as frequently as possible thoughout the year

ps the small local fireman display was also very interesting.

I am writing to congratulate Milestones for a superb day out. I wanted to celebrate my 42nd Birthday with something a little bit different, and to accommodate three generations, ranging from 10 to 82 years of age. My wife two children, Mum and Mum-in-law. It wasn't a quick decision, and was decided after trawling through the Internet day out options surrounding Dorset/Wiltshire and Hampshire. Milestones was worth the drive from Christchurch, it was safe, clean and friendly and most of all it was fun for all of us. In my opinion Milestones should proudly promote themselves more than they do.

Hi I came with my school a few weeks ago and we had great time. al the people that work there are really friendly and are helpful in everyway. The gift shop was reall good however I found it hard to choose what to buy. I really recomend it as it has all of what a museum needs, I have asked my mum and dad to take me in the bank holidays. I really hope that future visitors enjoy the marvell of milestones as much as our school did

My name is Chloe Summers.

I am a pupil of Purbrook Junior School and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Milestones Museum.

I came with my school a couple of weeks ago!

I loved Milestones museum, I loved the shops; the greenland; the dressing up area; and many more things about Milestones!

The funniest thing was that I was going around with my group and thought we saw another fake pub so we ran in screaming and laughing and found out that it was actually a real pub! ha ha.

Thank you ever so much for letting me and my school visit, I appreciate it!

From Chloe Summers!!

Entirely indoors this has to be a great way to while away a morning or afternoon.

Not only does this attraction have small shops & frontages which can be explored, the pavements also have the odd detail which can be remembered (if you're old or observant enough - glazed skylights for underground rooms).

More vehicles than expected here too - traction engines & the double decker buses (climbing is off limits mostly).

The hand held narration pads were good for the grown ups but too grown up for the children (as expected).

Cafe a bit limited but they tried. Nicely fitted out in 50's diner style.

Lovely Green!!!

I visit a lot of museums of various types and this is one of the best! I particularly like the way that social and engineering history are combined and the whole story is told in a most imaginative way. There is plenty to interest adults and children within the deceptively-large display area and even the cafe and shop are a cut above those often found at such locations. There is plenty of free parking too.

The only minus point is the lack of directional signs -the Anvil Theatre that we also visited is much better served- and those on the large site where the museum is located are simply too small given its remoteness from the other buildings, especially as our satnav told us that we had arrived when we had reached the latter.

Housed in an excellent modern building, this is a museum for the town and the county to be proud of and it is an example to other areas as to what can be achieved.

We visited Milestones on a cold, gloomy January afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our 3 year old daughter really enjoyed looking at the old vehicles and was fascinated by the "old" exhibits such as the 1930's hairdryers, radios and hoovers. She couldn't believe that a washing machine didn't look like the one she was familiar with at home.

My wife and I and our two friends who accompanied us loved the retro living areas from 1930's - 1970s. There were so many things that we saw in the museum that many of us remembered from our childhood and from our parents/grandparents.

Personally the best part of the museum was the re-creation of Winchester Chesil Street station and the importance of Hampshire railways in the early part of the 20th Century. I will now walk along those Winchester streets trying to piece together what was there before and imagine how it used to be.

My only criticism, I think there could have been more information points describing why certain shop names were used, local road names and their significance for Hampshire heritage. This was evident in some areas of the museum such as the Thornycroft area but not extensively across all areas of the museum.

Finally for those reviewers who have criticised the entrance fee, I think it is extremely good value but worth remembering that the Hampshire "Culture for All" initiative provides some offers on entrance fees.

Great fun for all ages and very easy access for a young family like us with buggies, toddlers etc.

We hope to return!
