Follow up activities for Who’s Who?

Victorian people

Using pictures of some of our mannequins or other pictures of Victorian people, do a brainstorming activity to find out as much as you can about this person from their appearance.

  • Who do you think they might have been?
  • Do you think they were rich or poor? How do you know?
  • Are they male or female? (particularly relevant with pictures of children where this question doesn’t always have such an obvious answer)
  • Are they young or old?
  • Do they have a job? If so, what job do you think they might have had?

The aim of this activity is to practice using clues to help find out about people from the past.

Box of clues activity

The Box of Clues activity is based on the principle of the activity boxes the children were working on during the session. The aim of the activity is to get the children to devise a box of clues to describe themselves by considering what objects, clothing, sounds, smells etc represent them. Play a game to see if others are able to guess whose box of clues they are looking at. How good are the clues they have suggested?

The aim of this activity is to understand how important a range of clues are to help us find out about the past.
