The County Council has three main elements. A brief outline of these is set out below:
Seventy-eight County Councillors are elected once every four years to represent the people of Hampshire at County level.
To register to vote in these elections you can contact you local District, Borough or City Council or register online through the DirectGov website.
Apart from County Council meetings, Councillors undertake many other roles and activities to represent their communities, set policy and provide local leadership.
To manage and deliver services the County Council staff work in Departments which operate from both the Headquarters (The Castle Complex) in Winchester and in workplaces all over the county doing a wide variety of work. Much of what the community of Hampshire needs is not delivered by a single organisation but by many partners working together. Hampshire County Council has responsibility to take a lead in some partnerships laid down by central government, but also operates in support of and alongside others in a variety of partnerships.
