Homes in need of general maintenance cause other related problems which can result in safety issues.

General maintenance

Are there signs of:

• broken fixtures and fittings that are in need of repair
• taps that are hard to turn
• baths that are difficult to use
• inadequate rails for safe access

• Arrange for:
  • damaged fittings to be repaired or replaced
  • rails to be fixed to help stability
  
  

  You may be able to reduce some risks yourself, or a friend, neighbour, relative or carer might help.

  You could contact a local Home Improvement Agency who assist vulnerable homeowners and private sector tenants.

  They will visit and give advice about problems with the condition of the home, offer a handy person service for small jobs around the home or offer advice on making the home more energy efficient.

  You could try Hampshire County Council Occupational Therapists for advice. (HCC OT's) are responsible for carrying out assessments and providing services that help people remain as independent as possible in their own homes

• overgrown garden in need of attention

• Arrange for:
  • gardening support
  
  

  You may be able to reduce some risks yourself, or a friend, neighbour, relative or carer might help.
