There are a lot of older people with mental health problems, such as dementia and depression, who need services and support, and over the next few years this number is expected to rise as the number of older people living in Hampshire grows. Health and social care services are therefore working together to support people in the best way possible through a joint older people’s mental health strategy.
This strategy was agreed by Hampshire Primary Care Trust and Hampshire County Council in the spring of 2008. It sets a direction of travel for the period 2008-13 for all organisations and individuals involved in older people’s mental health services. The aim is to improve outcomes for older people with mental health problems and their carers.
The Joint Strategy for OPMH 2011/12 workplan explains about some of the work that Hampshire is doing to improve services and support for older people with mental health needs and their carers
