Archive Ambassadors are trained to act as important links between the local Record Offices (Hampshire and the Isle of Wight) and their local communities. They act as ‘champions of local history’; pass on skills learnt from archives professionals to help communities develop and safeguard their heritage collections; help communities to make discoveries at the record offices; and above all support the Record Offices in keeping in touch with local communities.
Archive Ambassadors receive training from archives professionals including practical advice on conservation care and cataloguing, help with digitising records and doing oral history. Our next Archive Ambassador course are advertised on Whats on.
The following information pages introduce most of the issues that are commonly encountered by community groups when involved with community archives. Many of the pages have been written by the specialists employed by Hampshire Archives and Local Studies and they cover a wide variety of subjects.
If you or your group has a query that cannot be answered by the information on these pages, or if you would like to discuss any of these issues further, please do get in touch.
