Adoption as a legal process in England and Wales was begun in 1927. Adoption certificates (which for adopted persons take the place of a birth certificate) give the adoptive name of the child, date of birth and date of adoption. They name the adoptive parents, but NOT the birth parents.
If you were adopted and want to find your original birth or adoption certificates, or if you would like to use the Adoption Contact Register, you will need to contact the General Register Office.
If your adoption took place in Hampshire and you would like to find out more about it, contact Hampshire Adoption.
Some records relating to fostering and care homes in Hampshire have survived. To access information about yourself in these records, you will need to apply via a Subject Access Request.
