Springboard is a Dance Bursary Scheme from Hampshire County Council, delivered in partnership with Dance Up.
We are searching for outstanding young dancers who aspire to be the next leading dance professionals. The Springboard scheme will help dancers create a bespoke training programme to enhance and develop their skills. Successful candidates will receive up to £500 of dance training and development, with the guided support of a Scheme Manager.

Emma is 15 years old and has been dancing since the age of 8. She studies modern, tap, ballet and jazz at the Kim Ellen School of Dance and looks forward to the annual dance show at Ferneham Hall. Emma has been competing in festivals since the age of 9 and has recently won the adjudicator’s choice of most promising senior at the Tudor Rose Festival of
Dance. She looks forward to performing and teaching in dance in the future.
Sophie is 16 years old and has been dancing regularly since the age of 4 at the Sally Johnson Academy of Dance. She studies ballet, modern and jazz and has taken part in many festivals. Sophie has recently gained a place in Hampshire Youth Dance Company and is enjoying learning contemporary dance. Sophie aspires to study full time dance training at 18 and become a professional dancer.
Aged 15, Kate has been dancing since the age of 3, studying ballet, tap, modern and jazz at SJ Academy of Dance. She has qualified for the All England National Dance Finals in London on four separate occasions. Kate has just successfully auditioned and been awarded a place at Laine Theatre Arts where she will start a 3 year Dance and Musical Theatre Diploma commencing in September 2014. Kate aspires to become a professional dancer once she completes her training.
Izzy is 13 years old and has been dancing since the age of 3. She is currently enhancing her ballet and contemporary training at The Central Ballet School. Contemporary is a new dance form for her where she is dancing to drums and concentrating on her weight distribution and fluidity. She enjoys competing at a national level in festivals and competitions in ballet, tap and modern, winning medals and trophies and representing Petersfield Academy of Dance. Izzy hopes that dance will be her future.
Aged 16, Bethany started dancing at the age of 2 at the Ker-Mel school of Dancing, where she trains in ballet, modern, jazz and tap. She is currently auditioning for full time dance training and hopes to become a professional ballet dancer or teacher. She studies GCSE and AS Level Dance at school and has attended various courses at Elmhurst School of Ballet, Central School of Ballet and English National Ballet. Last year Bethany enjoyed being an Associate with the Royal Academy of Dance. She hopes to use her bursary to explore new dance styles.
Maisie is 14 and lives in the New Forest. She has been dancing for 11 years and studies ballet, pointe, tap, modern, jazz and musical theatre. Maisie enjoys being a member of Hampshire Youth Dance Company. She has competed in festivals and successfully reached the All England Finals in London. Maisie has performed in several pantomimes at the Mayflower, Southampton and is also studying GCSE Dance. She hopes to study full time at a dance college and to have a performing career on stage in the future.
Adam is 15 and only became interested in dance when he began secondary school. Initially, Adam was only interested in the acting aspects of the performing arts but since taking dance classes within school, he has developed a passion for dance.His preferred style of dance is contemporary and since receiving a dance bursary, he has begun taking intermediate ballet classes with the intentions of improving his technique and broadening his dance knowledge. Adam aspires to perform professionally onstage.
Libby is 15 and has always danced for as long as she can remember. She studies ballet, tap, modern, jazz, Pilates and musical theatre at the Sally Johnson Academy of Dance. Libby loves to perform and she has successfully competed at dance festivals reaching the finals of the All England Dance Competition. Libby would like to use her bursary to attend a summer school at one of the top dance colleges where she intends to audition next year.
Lydia has been dancing since the age of 3. Dancing has always been her passion because it’s what she loves to do. She takes part in all kinds of dance such as ballet, tap, modern, street, contemporary, disco freestyle, rock'n' roll and Latin & ballroom. She has performed in many productions including pantomimes and ballet stories with London Children’s Ballet, National Youth Ballet and English Youth Ballet. Lydia loves to be hectic and busy, and hopes she will be a professional dancer in the future.
Rosie is 14 years old and lives in Hythe. She has been dancing since the age of 5 and now studies ballet, tap, modern, jazz and musical theatre at The Lindsey Read School of Dance. She enjoys being a member of Hampshire Youth Dance Company. Rosie has performed in several pantomimes at The Mayflower and in The Nutcracker with English Youth Ballet. She travels to London as much as she can to participate in workshops. Rosie plans to audition for dance college and hopes to go when she leaves school.
Luke is 16 and has been passionate about dancing since an early age. At Renton Dance Studio he studies ballet, tap, modern, jazz and contemporary and recently obtained distinction in his intermediate ballet exam. He competes in dance festivals winning the 2013 All England Dance Competition in the under 21 Song and Dance Trio. Luke aspires to attend Arts Ed at 18 to study Musical Theatre, to ultimately perform professionally and to one day dance with the Matthew Bourne Company.
