Museums and galleries across Hampshire are taking their programming to a new level over the next three years.
A unique programme of annual ‘Big Themes’ will see ambitious displays linking together the stories, the people and the historic collections of the County. The First World War, Dinosaurs and Jane Austen are just three of the themes that are expected to draw hosts of new visitors to Hampshire’s museums.
Each year Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council will lead on delivery of a major partnership programme of exhibitions and events centred on a major theme - with a unique Hampshire twist. This innovative idea developed during their work with Southampton City Council on development of the Hampshire Solent Cultural Trust.
2014 will mark the first year of the programme and the Big Theme – entitled ‘1914’ – will focus on the 100th commemoration of the First World War. The programme of exhibitions and events will be delivered by the three organisations, which will also encompass a wide range of other arts, museums and heritage organisations across the Hampshire and Solent area.
