Councillor Ken Thornber, leader of Hampshire County Council signed the International Countdown 2010 biodiversity declaration on 26th June 2006.

Three years on, significant progress has been made in many areas of the Council's biodiversity programme.  Excellent progress has been made in:

The County Council has joined partners such as Natural England, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and many others throughout Europe in aspiring to halt the loss of biodiversity. Recent reports show that the diversity of Europe's wildlife and habitats continues to be lost at an alarming rate.

The Corporate Biodiversity Action Plan demonstrates the County Council's commitment to conserving the natural environment of Hampshire and ensuring that everyone has access to the benefits of nature.
