Bursary funding 2014/2015

2014/15 bursary funding criteria

Please read the following information/documents carefully before completing the bursary application form. Bursary award support is not guaranteed and you should not assume that you will be funded every year for long courses such as a L5 Foundation degree.

  • Priority will be given to practitioners in settings that have a current 2014/15 subscription number.

School based staff and Out of School staff

  • School based staffonly those working their full contracted paid hours in the nursery and/or Reception class will be eligible to apply. (Please print the bursary application form as a signature from the Headteacher is required by all school based applicants).
  • Out of School  - practitioners may apply for funding for Level 3 Playwork qualifications.

Level 2 and 3 Qualifications

  • Support for Level 2 qualifications should be available through ‘Apprenticeship’ or similar funding administered directly by colleges and training providers.
  • Level 3 bursary award - a maximum of £900 can be applied for if your setting has joined the training subscription scheme and a maximum of £450 if they have not.
Important Information - Please read if you are considering the new L3 Diploma - Early Years Educator qualification from 1st September 2014!
From 1 September 2014 a new Level 3 qualification will be offered by training providers and colleges. If you are intending to study the new L3 Early Years Educator qualification and do not hold A*-C grades in GCSE English and Maths, your setting will not be able to include you in the adult:child ratios that are necessary for delivery of the EYFS.
Please ensure you have discussed the possible implications to your future employment with your manager before committing to/enrolling on the new L3 Early Years Educator qualification. If you do not hold A*-C grades in GCSEEnglish and Maths you may need to consider undertaking these in September rather than the L3 qualification. Bursary funding will be available for both GCSE English and GCSE Maths (N.B. GCSE English Literature is not eligible for a bursary award).
Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage - published March 2014 and effective September 2014 (Page 20)
  • 3.23 In group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant* level 3** qualification and at least half of the other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification. The manager should have at least two years experience of working in an early years setting, or have at least two years other suitable experience.
(* As defined by the National College for Teaching and Leadership)
(** To count in the ratios at level 3, staff holding an Early Years Educator qualification must also have achieved GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C or above)
Practitioners currently engaged in study towards the L3 Diploma for Children and Young people's Workforce - Early Years Pathway are not affected by these changes and will still be eligible to be counted in adult:child ratios.
