Sometimes, children and young people can need temporary shelter at short notice. It’s very often a frightening, confusing, unexpected situation for a child, and they may quite well be traumatised by the run up to needing an immediate place of safety.
Emergency foster carers look after the children who find themselves in these circumstances. Its both a type of foster care in its own right and something that regular foster cares can do as an “add on” to the provision of regular care. But a carer does need skills and abilities to be able to offer these children the sense of stability and safety and deal with their world having been turned upside down.
