New approaches to managing dogs in the countryside

Dog walking is the single most popular countryside activity with walking with a dog accounting for 51% of all visits to the natural environment (Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment, 2011–2012 Survey).

Hampshire County Council has been working in partnership with the Kennel club and others since 2005, carrying out research and producing guidance to assist public an private landowners and land mangers in minimising the impacts of dogs in the countryside. This has been a positive approach which recognised the many benefits of walking with dogs and the value that dog walkers bring to the countryside.
