If you wish to appeal against the decision not to admit your child into a Community or Voluntary Controlled school in Hampshire, please fill in the online form to request an appeals pack. If you wish to appeal for an Voluntary Aided, Foundation, Trust or Academy school in Hampshire, please contact the individual school directly.
If you wish to appeal for a non-Hampshire school, please contact the Local Authority for that school.
Infant class size appeals - this is where your child has been refused admission to your preferred school on the grounds that the admission of an additional child would breach the infant class size limit.
Standard appeals - this is where your child has been refused admission because the admission of an additional child would prejudice the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources.

Occasionally, appeal panels hear appeals by parents whose child has been refused a place at a school due to their challenging behaviour.
If you choose to appeal you will need to make a written statement and most parents also attend the hearing to present their case in person. The guidance notes above will explain the structure of the hearing. You will receive written notice of the date and venue of the hearing at least 10 school days in advance
This will depend on the strength of your case against the case of the admission authority. It will also depend on the type of appeal - the grounds under which a parent can appeal in an infant class size appeal for example, are much more limited (see guidance notes above).
The table below shows the number of appeals for Hampshire community and voluntary controlled schools lodged and heard during 2013/14 for entry to Year R, Year 3 (at a junior school) and Year 7 in September 2014 and their outcomes.

Appeals for admission to Year R, Year 3 in a junior school or Year 7 in September 2015 will be heard from May onwards. Full details are provided in the timetables below.
All other appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
The Clerk to the appeal will usually write to you with the Appeal Panel’s decision within 5 working days of the hearing, although this may not be possible where there are multiple appellants for one school. The school and the local authority are sent a copy of the letter at the same time and do not hear the outcome of the appeal before you.
The decision of the independent appeal panel is binding upon the County Council and can only be overturned by the Courts.
If your appeal is successful then you should contact the school to make the necessary arrangements for your child's start date.
If your appeal is unsuccessful, the County Admissions Team will be able to tell you where school places are available. You can contact them directly to discuss your options and make enquiries about places at other schools.
You cannot appeal again in the same academic year unless there is a significant and material change in your, or the school’s, circumstances. If this applies to your situation, you should write to the County Admissions Team detailing your change in circumstances. You may of course, remain on the waiting list for any school.
