Admission to school

STOP PRESS for Year R and Year 3 (junior) applicants

>Page updated on 18 April 2016 <

Today is National Offer Day - the day that all parents who submitted an on-time application find out which school their child has been allocated a place at for September 2016.

We are pleased to announce that 97.3% of Hampshire applicants have gained a place in Year R (reception) at one of their preferred schools, with 88.9% gaining a place at their first preference school.

For those transferring from infant to junior school (Year 3), 98.8% got one of their preferred schools, with 97% gaining a place at their first preference school.

If you applied online, you will have been sent an e-mail during the early hours of this morning confirming the outcome of your application. If you have not yet received your e-mail, you will be able to log in to the online system to view the outcome.

If we have been unable to offer you a place at your first preference school, you will also be sent a letter by first class post detailing the reasons for the refusal. If you have been allocated a school outside of Hampshire, you will also be sent a letter containing a reply slip which you will need to return to confirm your acceptance of the place.

If you applied using a paper form, you will be sent a letter today by first class post confirming the outcome of your application. Please allow 3 working days for receipt.

What if I didn't get my preferred school?

Your child will automatically be added to the waiting list of any Hampshire school you named on your application that was a higher preference than the one you have been allocated. Please refer to our waiting list section for details on how waiting lists are administered. If you want to join the waiting list of a lower preference school, you will need to make a new application (see below). Please note that if a place becomes available and we are able to offer your child a place from the waiting list, any previous offer will automatically be withdrawn. It is important therefore that you let us know if you no longer wish to be on the waiting list of any your preferred schools.

You also have the right of appeal against the decision to refuse your child a place at any of your preferred schools. Please visit our appeals webpage for further information.

Information about how places were allocated in Year R and Year 3 for September 2016 at each school can be found in our information and guidance section.
