Teachers Pay within maintained schools is set within the context of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document with salaries being within the minimum and maximum of the statutory ranges.
Salary for individual teacher posts in maintained schools is a matter for each Governing Body, within the statutory pay range set in the statutory School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document . Schools will advertise the appropriate salary for the post, including allowances, having due regard to the nature of the responsibilities of the post.
Applicants need to be aware that schools are no longer required to honour the same salary that a teacher is currently receiving. You should therefore check the advert details and contact the school for further information if you are unclear on the pay range being offered.
Academy schools are not obliged to apply the provisions of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document or the provisions of the Conditions of Service for School Teachers (which governs wider terms and conditions, for example, sickness pay and notice periods amongst others). Support staff employed by Hampshire County Council are employed on a pay framework of grades consisting of a 3 or 5 step salary range with progression based on individual performance. Pay progression and pay awards take effect in April each year. Wider terms and conditions (eg sickness pay, notice etc) are based on a collective agreement with recognised trade unions, known as the Employment in Hampshire County Council (EHCC) agreement.
Although these schools are still maintained by the local authority, the Governing Body of the school is the employer, not Hampshire County Council. They are not obliged to follow Hampshire’s terms and conditions, but all of the schools within Hampshire have opted to apply the Hampshire County Council pay framework, and the main provisions of the EHCC agreement.
