Pupil/welfare support

Pupil support staff are responsible for the welfare of pupils, through helping them to overcome barriers to learning.

Roles range from school matron, to learning support mentors.  All require the postholder to be empathetic and a good listener and the ability to encourage and motivate children and young people so that any barriers, whether they be family circumstances, poor literacy or numeracy skills, low self esteem, or other difficulties, can be discussed and shared with a view to supporting the pupil to overcome them.

Qualification and experience requirements vary from role to role and school to school but will be detailed in the role profiles for the post.
