Bilingual New Arrival Conferencing (BiNAC)

This is a practical workshop style session focusing on support strategies teachers can use in order to help a pupil new to English to access the language of the curriculum. It is currently completely free of charge. The session usually lasts an hour and can involve as many participants as appropriate. Each participant will be provided with an information booklet which is phase specific. The session can also be used to share any particular concerns about the pupil and to discuss issues arising from the early profiling assessment.

On some occasions, for example if a teacher is very new to EAL issues, a follow up visit can be arranged so that further support can be provided. Coaching support can also be arranged where appropriate.

BiNAC sessions are equally appropriate for any other members of school staff who may have contact with the pupil / parents, such as teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisory assistants and admin staff. We are also very happy for parents to attend where appropriate. We would like to see ALL school staff.

Please contact theTraining Manager for further details and/or to arrange a session. You can request this training via our office when you refer a newly arrived pupil.
