We welcome enquiries from trainees with regard to supporting pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds, including those with English as an Additional Language (EAL). We are able to provide advice and information over the phone and trainees are welcome to visit our resource base to borrow books, materials and artefacts.
It is sometimes possible for trainees with a particular interest in EAL or Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA) to shadow a member of our team. This provides an opportunity to learn more about planning and providing effective support, maximising the use of pupils’ heritage language at school or assessing a pupil who is new to English, for example.
We are able to visit schools to provide specialist input on EAL/EMA issues, particularly in relation to meeting the QTS standards. This can be offered on a cluster or pyramid basis.
We can deliver specialist input as part of existing training programmes for example through lectures, seminars and workshops.
Please contact Sarah Coles our training manager to discuss any of the above or your institution’s particular training needs.
