Education Recruitment

Selection in Schools and Children's Centres

Shortlisting

Shortlisting involves narrowing down your list of applicants to those who meet your criteria best and who you want to take forward to interview stage.  This needs to be based on the criteria identifed in the role profile and person specification, and should be undertaken by at least two people to avoid bias.

Interviews and other selection methods

Interviews are an important way of finding out more information about your candidates and assessing whether they meet the criteria for the job.  They are not the only way to assess suitability, however.  Class observations, group activities, written or aptitude tests, presentations and Occupational Personality Questionnaires will be useful, depending on the type of job.

Offering employment and pre-employment checks

Any offer of employment MUST be conditional based on satisfactory pre-employment checks.
