Expansive education is based at the University of Winchester and was set up by Professors Bill Lucas and Guy Claxton. It is an umbrella term coined to describe teachers, schools, colleges and organisations that are committed to focusing on the development of useful, transferable habits of mind throughout mainstream education. The four main themes are:
expanding goals for learning, beyond success in examinations
individual intelligence is expandable, not fixed
learning opportunities also happen outside the classroom
teachers are learners, seeking and investigating better outcomes.
The Expansive Education Network (eedNET) brings together like minded people to share and develop practice. Schools involved in RRE will be able to find mutual support, action research ideas and stimulating dialogue through the network.
