The awareness and involvement of parents will be crucial for the successful incorporation of RRE into the full life of the school. For some parents the reaction to the word rights may not always be positive. It may cause a degree of suspicion or even hostility and has to be handled sensitively. Gaining their understanding and support can be achieved in several ways.

Raising awareness and involving other members of the community can involve other agencies that also work with children and families, for example parenting programmes, youth work and the police.
There may be occasions where the school could offer some input to these and other members of the community such as religious groups, rotary clubs, business, etc, which can be led by the children or young people. These are often the best ambassadors.
