Battle of the Bands 2012
Hampshire Music Service
The contest is open to young people aged 11-18 from South East Hampshire (Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Hedge End, Horndean, Locksheath, Portchester, Titchfield, Waterlooville). You need to include the name of your band, individual band members’ names and which instruments they play, details of your school, college, or youth centre if you go to one, and your email address.
Bands shortlisted will go through to the second round of the competition which involves playing at one of four live heats in the Spring of 2012. The winners of each live heat will then take part in the Hampshire Music Service Rock Day: to prepare them for the next stage they will get coaching from experts in guitar, bass, drums, vocals, performance and stage presence.
Round three of the contest is the Grand Final at Ferneham Hall, Fareham on 5 May, 2012 where all four heat winners will each play a set to a panel of music industry insiders who will choose the overall best band. The winners will play at the Festival next summer and win a recording session at East Street Studio in Havant.
Councillor Roy Perry, Hampshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services said, This is a great opportunity for a young band to take advantage of professional advice and then record at a professional recording studio, not to mention grand standing at a festival event which is part of Hampshire’s celebration marking the 2012 Olympics. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so I’d urge bands to get their songs to Hampshire Music Service as soon as possible. Who knows it could be the first steps on the road to Rock History!”
