Erica Flint, flautist with the Hampshire County Youth Wind Band and award student with Hampshire County Council’s Music Service, recently performed with Claire Jones, international concert harpist and former Official Harpist to His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales.
The pair played the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp before an appreciative audience that included the event’s organiser Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire Dame Mary Fagan DCVO. The event, in All Saints Church, Deane, was in aid of The Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust.
Paul Wright, who accompanied the pair on organ commented, “[Erica gave] what must surely have been the performance of her life in the concert, much to the obvious delight of absolutely everyone! I have rarely known an audience so unanimous and genuine in their praise.” Paul added, “She is a very talented and hard-working young lady who is becoming a very intelligent, sensitive and adaptable musician.”
Erica, who is still only 13, attends Ash Manor School in Aldershot and has played in Christmas concerts, Presentation Evenings and other events at the school. She also currently plays in the North East Hants Area Schools Wind Band and has plans to audition for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain next year, having recently vacated her desk in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. Erica’s mother said, “I was so proud of the way Erica conducted herself. The music skills Erica has acquired are as a result of the hard work of Hampshire Music Services teachers and award.” She also thanked Paul Wright for invaluable help with rehearsing.
