Wednesday 9th February 2011 was National Sing Up Day and to celebrate the occasion Hampshire County Council’s Music Service organised a special Vocal Force event at Ferneham Hall, Fareham, with seven local schools taking part.
Sing Up is a government scheme that puts singing at the heart of every primary school. Vocal Force is a Hampshire Music Service Sing Up project and is focused on Fareham and Gosport schools. Now in its second year, Vocal Force provides weekly Singing Squad” training sessions and support visits for staff in schools, in order to develop their skills and confidence in leading singing.
This celebration of singing marked the outstanding achievements of participating staff, and involved a massed choir of almost 300 children from Alverstoke Junior, Crofton Anne-Dale Junior, Harrison Primary, Ranvilles Infant, St John's, Gosport CE (VA) Primary, Wallisdean Infant and Wallisdean Junior.
The Vocal Force event featured many different styles of music from the Sing Up songbank, with a mixture of unaccompanied singing, backing tracks and live musicians performing on the day.
