A range of opportunities is available for Hampshire Primary Schools through the Primary team, whose members include:
A key aspect of the support provided by the team is The Hampshire Primary Curriculum Music Project. This provides schools with free access to courses, conferences and a range of publications including curriculum resource books. It also generates advisory materials to support primary music planning: National Curriculum planning documents and Primary Planning resources are currently available.
Vocal and recorder festivals and workshops are provided by the vocal and recorder co-ordinators.
Schools may purchase SLA visits which can cover INSET days, staff meetings, monitoring visits, demonstration lessons, planning sessions with music managers, meetings with headteachers/governors etc.
Schools may also buy class teaching from Hampshire Music Service. This is requested in the same way as instrumental teaching and is delivered as a regular weekly input throughout the year. Hampshire Music Service class teachers work in partnership with school staff to help deliver an appropriate music curriculum for their pupils.
Members of the education department of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra deliver workshops for schools in Hampshire. Workshops may be purchased individually by all special and primary schools in Hampshire. Details of these can be found in the brochure sent annually to all these schools. Please note that many of the workshops can be adapted to the special school's classroom, and one of the workshops is designed especially for use in special schools. Bookings for these workshops are made through the Hampshire Music Service office (023 8065 2037), or by completing the booking form. Your request will be passed to the BSO, who will then contact you to confirm booking details. Please see the full workshop list for details or view the price list.
There are also various opportunities to purchase world music workshops - e.g. samba, African drumming and gamelan.
Details of all current developments and opportunities can be found in the termly Newsletters to all Primary schools, which also appear on the website. You can read the latest letters here.
