In March 2013 the government announced its commitment to providing additional ring fenced funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and Sport in primary schools in England. In February 2014 they further committed to continue the funding until 2020.
The vision for all pupils by the time they leave primary school is to be physically literate with the knowledge, skills and understanding to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The DfE have updated (October 2015) their guidance on 'how to use the PE and Sport premium, conditions of grant and accountability.' Colleagues should also be aware of explicit references to the use of the PE and Sport funding in the new Common Inspection Framework (CIF) [Ofsted September 2015]. 1 MB
