A new Energy Management System has been launched to help schools in Hampshire manage their energy usage. Saving energy has become an increasingly popular item on the agenda for schools, not only in saving costs against a shrinking revenue budget, but to inspire and educate pupils to be conscious of the impact on the environment. In the last 5 years, every school in Hampshire has had one or more smart meters installed; these smart meters (or Automated Meter Reading – AMR) measure the amount of electricity or gas delivered to your school. This data is fed directly into the new Energy Management System so that you can clearly and accurately monitor how much energy your school is using – and the first step to reducing energy consumption is understanding exactly how it’s currently used.
With the new Energy Management System you can:
Quickly access your own personalised dashboard specific to your school.
View electricity and gas usage in a choice of readily available visual formats.
Compare energy usage against the previous day, month or even years.
Identify when you are using unnecessary energy outside of core operating hours.
Easily give access to pupils for their own energy projects.
To login, go to http://www.bmsi-mediconline.co.uk/?cid=hampshirecc.
We highly recommend that you use google chrome to access the new system. Each school has an individual login based on their Department for Education number, as below:
Username: Your DfE number + 0
For example, if your DfE number was 1234, your username would be 12340.
There are a few exceptions to this rule – if your login does not work in the above format please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Data from your smart meter identifies the times of the day and the buildings when energy is used the most. The meters provide a profile of your energy use based on readings taken every half an hour. This helps identify when most energy is used and where to investigate the changes you need to make to reduce the energy you use, which will ultimately help you to cut your energy costs.
The web-based software allows you to see your school’s energy consumption through a tool called ‘Energy360’ your school will have online access to a range of reports, including graphs of energy consumption for each day, week or month. This avoids the need to manually read meters at regular intervals and allows detailed analysis of energy consumption.
You can make the reports as wide or as detailed as you like – click on a chosen day and the reporting tool will ‘zoom in’ to show the half hourly data.
The system is also able to display the carbon emissions that have been produced - helpful if you are monitoring energy as part of the curriculum, or working to become a more sustainable school.
This user friendly system will help you target your energy saving measures where they will be most effective.
Currently, a smart meter will cost your school around £200 a year. Depending on how you pay your bills, it may be added to the standing charge that you pay to your energy supplier.
Using your smart meter to make energy savings will enable you to recoup this amount and much more!
