- The eagerly awaited second serving of the Hollow Crown aired this May 2016, coinciding with the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death in 1616. The Hollow Crown plays out and is based upon Shakespeare’s history plays involving, Henry IV, V, VI and Richard II and III. This trilogy sees stars that include Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III, Dame Judi Dench as The Duchess of York and Downtown Abbey star Hugh Bonneville as Gloucester. With the star studded cast the production crew spent just under a month shooting in Winchester at the historic Great Hall, revisiting history with Shakespeare’s acting company The Kings Men said to have previously performed in Winchester itself.
