Guiding Principles Hamble Estuary Partnership

During development of the Hamble Estuary Management Plan 2003-2008, extensive consultation was undertaken to develop and agree the aims and policies. Since the end of the EMP, the HEP has transferred these to become the guiding principles for the collective approach of the HEP.

Nature Conservation: Encourage and enhance nature conservation interests of the Hamble in a sustainable manner

Recreation: Promote safe recreational use of the Hamble and its environs whilst reducing pressures on wildlife

Shore Development: Support economic interests whilst maintaining the character of the estuary

Navigation: Ensure the safety of navigation within the Harbour area

Fishing and Bait Collection: Support safe and sustainable fishing practice in the river

Moorings: Support the continued use of the river as a centre for sustainable recreational boating, through the effective management of the mooring provision

Farming: Encourage sustainable agriculture

Landscape: Maintain and enhance the landscape character of the Hamble River

Archaeology: Help promote and investigate the archaeological and historic heritage of the estuary

Physical Processes: Encourage the natural function of the river and shoreline

Pollution and water quality: Improve and thereafter maintain the water quality of the river, whilst reducing and preventing pollution
