Staff Development Programme

Delivering a programme of high quality staff development training is important to ensure that Hampshire Learning staff are equipped with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to manage and deliver adult and family learning programmes across the County. Our Staff Development Programme is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure it is relevant and responsive to the needs of all staff.

Examples of courses we will be running in 2012/13:

Equality and Diversity
Safeguarding
Invigilator Training
Dyslexia Awareness

Our training events are advertised online through The Learning Zone.

Staff are requested to refer booking requests through their organisation’s nominated online booker who will have authorisation to book staff onto Hampshire Learning courses through the Learning Zone.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Tutors should keep up to date with developments in their own subject specialism and teaching practice. The Institute for Learning (IfL) offers resources and support to help tutors manage their CPD. Tutors are also encouraged to attend Hampshire Learning Tutor Training events and other Staff Development opportunities which take place throughout the year. Tutors should discuss any staff development needs with their manager.

Initial Teaching Training (ITT)

Adult and community learning tutors who began teaching after 2007 are expected to work towards Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status by undertaking the qualifications that were introduced under the 2007 Reforms or by proceeding to professional formation if already qualified.

From 1 April 2012 IfL members with QTLS status are recognised as qualified to teach in schools.

Funding

Tutors may be able to secure a funding contribution from Hampshire Learning towards ITT training costs for Levels 3-4 (e.g. PTLLS/CTTLS). Tutors should read the Guidance Notes Microsoft Word 64kb and find a suitable course with an external training provider such as an FE college before proceeding with their Funding Application 163kb.
