Three more days to help fight flooding

Friday, 02 November 2012

Hampshire residents are being reminded to complete an online form by 5 November to help in the fight against flooding.

The Met Office is warning of increased risks of flooding in Hampshire this winter, with the ground already saturated from one of the wettest springs and summers on record.

Under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 the County Council has new responsibilities as a Lead Local Flood Authority to manage the flood risk related to groundwater, surface water and ordinary watercourse flooding. The Environment Agency remains responsible for coastal and main river flooding.

As part of this role, the County Council is responsible for developing a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.

Residents are now being invited to pass on their knowledge and experience of flooding in their local area, or to confirm if the information the County Council already holds, about the extent and frequency of previous flooding, is correct.

The online consultation is open until noon on Monday 5 November.
