Waterlooville's new HWRC open for business

Waterlooville residents will soon be able to recycle their domestic waste at the new £950,000 household waste recycling centre (HWRC) which opens its gates to the public on Wednesday 16 January 2013 at 8am.
Funded by developer contributions, the new HWRC has been built at Old Park Farm, within the West of Waterlooville Major Development Area. The HWRC - which is larger and will be quicker and easier for people to use with separate levels for householders and servicing vehicles - replaces the former facility in Hambledon Road. The new facility also has significantly more waste container bays and customer parking spaces than the old HWRC.
A further benefit of the split level layout is that full waste containers can be removed and replaced without having to temporarily close the public area (as in the case at the Hambledon Road centre). Servicing vehicles can reach the containers directly from the lower level, reducing congestion and ensuring the HWRC can continue to operate as normal. The access road will feature an onsite stacking lane that can accommodate up to 27 cars, while there will be car parking spaces for up to 27 cars, including two disabled bays, helping prevent traffic queuing outside the site.
Councillor Mel Kendal, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Hampshire County Council, said: "There is a lot more capacity here and better segregation between the areas used by householders and those where servicing vehicles need to operate and manoeuvre.
"Household Waste Recycling Centres are among Hampshire County Council's most widely used public services with more than four million people visiting them each year. Householders in the area will be able to recycle more material, quickly and safely at the new Waterlooville HWRC, thereby reducing waste and making a further contribution to Hampshire having the best record of any county in the UK for diverting household waste from landfill (90%)."
With the opening of the new HWRC, the former facility will be closed. Signs will be in place, on local roads, to direct people from the old HWRC to the new site at Waterlooville. As this area is still part of a new housing development site, the access road to the HWRC will have a temporary road surface and no road markings until housing construction is complete. Construction traffic will be separated from traffic coming to the new HWRC by fencing.
