Hart and Test Valley community organisations to benefit from County Council funding

Friday, 08 March 2013

Two community organisations will benefit from grants approved by Hampshire County Council's Executive Member for Culture and Recreation.

At his Decision Day on 7 March 2013, Councillor Keith Chapman awarded grants totalling £25,000 for work to buildings to create storage facilities for use by parents and toddler groups, and youth groups in Odiham, and a grant towards a project that will expand the balcony area of St Paul's Church and Community Centre in Andover to create three new rooms.

Funding from the Council's Community Buildings Fund enables the voluntary and community sector to maintain the quality of Hampshire's village halls and community association. This money enables improvements to be made to buildings and can help with the development of new facilities. By maintaining these buildings, it enables local communities to access the services and facilities they need.

The breakdown of grant funding is as follows :

Cross Barn, Odiham - £12,500

St Paul's Church and Community Centre, Andover - £12,500

TOTAL - £25,000

Councillor Chapman said: "Village halls and community associations are a valuable asset in every local area and vital in providing an activity hub that brings together local people of all ages.

"The County Council's contributions enable improvements to be made to their buildings, equipment and facilities, which helps to ensure that they continue their valuable work within the community."
