Lifting of traffic restrictions to benefit Waterlooville Businesses

Monday, 08 July 2013

Businesses in London Road South, Waterlooville, will continue to benefit from improved access for their customers after Hampshire County Council lifts traffic restrictions permanently in the area.

The decision to lift the traffic restrictions permanently follows a 6-month trial which was warmly received by the local business community. It sees the introduction of limited 30-minute waiting bays that allow shoppers easy access to the local shops. Vehicles are also able to turn around in London Road and trade vehicles are now able to load and unload in a designated loading bay. Signs have also been improved so the new regulations are clearer for everyone.

Cllr Seán Woodward, Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment at Hampshire County Council said:

"We have listened to local businesses, the Waterlooville Business Association, the Waterlooville Community Forum and our colleagues at Havant Borough Council. We made this permanent change to help retain footfall and improve delivery access to shops and traders in the southern section of London Road so that it remains a vibrant commercial centre in Waterlooville."

Tim Slater, Executive Head for Economy and Communities at Havant Borough Council said:

"We welcome Hampshire County Council's decision to permanently lift parking and access restrictions on London Road South. This is very positive news for local businesses and their customers who will enjoy easier access to the many shops and services on the area. This also helps improve the vitality of the town centre which is promoted by the council and local business."
