Thank you for your petition, which was passed on to me by Totton and Eling Town Council on 29 March 2012, concerning noise pollution caused by commercial vehicles in Totton.
County Council officers are due to carry out a survey of HGV movements in the Totton area during 2012/13. The purpose of the survey will be to identify how many HGVs are currently using these roads as a through route rather than use the A326 and the M27. This will help us to determine whether a 7.5 tonne weight limit should be introduced on the A36 from Totton to the Calmore Industrial Estate and on the A336 from Totton to the A326 and through Netley Marsh.
Please note that we cannot ban HGVs that need to use these roads to access local premises for deliveries. In addition to this, a weight limit applied for environmental reasons such as this can only restrict commercial vehicles in excess of 7.5 tonnes.
Once the survey has been carried out officers will contact the Town Council to share the results and to discuss the matter further.
