Hampshire Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing Board

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 required the County Council to establish a Health and Wellbeing Board. The Board will improve the lives of local people by making it easier for health, adults and children’s social care and wellbeing services to plan and buy better services together.

The Board covers the same geographical area as Hampshire County Council. This does not include Southampton, Isle of Wight or Portsmouth.

Function

What does the Board do?

The Board provides the key focus for promoting the health and wellbeing of those who live, work and visit Hampshire. It brings together leaders from the County Council, NHS and District and Borough Councils to develop a shared understanding of local needs, priorities and service developments.

The Board is responsible for ensuring that the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment is developed. The Needs Assessment wil contain information about the needs of local people that require addressing so that their health and wellbeing is improved.

The Board is also responsible for producing a Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy that explains how healthcare, health improvement and social care services will be changed to improve everyone’s health and wellbeing. Member organisations of the Board will work closely together to purchase services that will ensure the required improvements take place.
