Working in partnership with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service

The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority (HFRS) provides fire and rescue services for the County of Hampshire including Southampton and Portsmouth. It comprises 1800 staff across 52 separate. HFRS is dependent on highly resilient IT solutions to deliver high quality public services. These range from full user desktop services to the high availability of several specialist software applications.

The Hampshire IT/HFRS relationship is managed as a partnership. It is estimated that this partnership approach is achieving £800K savings per annum by the use of shared resources to drive down IT costs. Neil Moore, HFRS Head of ICT, has said “HPSN2 has enabled us to improve our resiliance and meet the increasing demand for bandwith at no extra cost”.

The Public Services Plaza: a groundbreaking IT shared services agreement

Hampshire IT, Havant Borough Council and East Hampshire District Council have entered into a groundbreaking IT shared services agreement. This has built on the success of Hampshire IT’s support to the Public Service Plaza: modern, efficient premises shared by both councils and other public organisations, which bring together as many services as possible in one place.

Havant Borough Council recognised that IT and telephony would be critical to the project in two ways: in maintaining access for staff to core systems during the office moves, and in creating new ways of working in the new offices. They needed an IT service which would support modern and flexible ways of working. So they chose a managed service from Hampshire IT.
