The IIS (Windows Server) Web Hosting Service provides virtual Web servers to customers requiring ASP and/or .NET support to develop and maintain Web applications.

Alternatively, customers who do not specifically require ASP or .NET functionality can choose cPanel Web Hosting as an alternative to the IIS (Windows based) Service. The cPanel Hosting provides a fully self-managed environment with a richer set of features.

Customers

This service is for customers who wish to publish ASP or .NET applications on their HCC hosted websites.

Pre-requisites

Customers will need:

• A registered ·domain name
• Access to a PC
• Web design and publishing software
• Internet connection
• FTP client

Customers are reminded that the terms and conditions for the Web Hosting service requires the site owner to maintain their contact details with the IT Services Department. We may need to contact you regarding your Website, and if we are unable to do so due to out of date contact information, your site may be at risk of removal from our hosting service.

Inclusions

The IIS Web Hosting Service is provided on a shared Windows based Web server. Each site hosted on the server is run in isolation to any other sites that may be hosted.

The main elements of the service are:

• 100MB Web space as standard
• Hosting for ASP and .NET applications
• FrontPage Server Extensions
• One FTP user account
• Local SMTP server that supports sending of emails.

Exclusions

The service excludes the following:

• The customer’s Internet connection.
• The customer’s PC and associated equipment.
• Support for the customer home PC and associated equipment
• Customer's Website content.
• Support for user's Web design and publishing software.
• Support / troubleshooting for any non-standard IIS configuration.
• Support for site specific issues resulting from routine security patching of the server. Assistance will be offered on a best endeavours basis.
• Support for .NET and ASP applications
• Database Hosting (Can be added as an option)

Customers are responsible for maintaining backups of their own site content.

Other services offered on the price list that could be added to your order are:

Password Protected Area

This service is provided for customers who would like to restrict access to certain web pages within their website.

Domain name Registration

This service is provided for customers who would like to register an approved domain name and have Hampshire County Council manage that domain on their behalf.

Additional FTP ID

This service is provided for customers who have Web space hosted by Hampshire County Council and who would like to give another person the ability to upload or alter files on their Website. The facility is administered by the customer as part of their Web space. Please note that this facility could allow the other FTP user to upload or overwrite files already created without your permission or knowledge.

• Access to a PC
• Web space hosted by Hampshire County Council
• Web design and publishing software
• Internet connection

Database Hosting

This service is provided for customers who require access to a back-end database such as Access or MYSQL for their dynamically driven Websites, as purchased from Hampshire County Council. This price includes 50Mb of storage space. Additional space can be purchased at an additional cost. This facility creates a link to a database from your virtual server - it does not include the use of any database query tools or cgi scripts.

Customers will need:

• Access to a PC
• Internet connection.

Extra Database Space

This service is provided for customers who have database hosting with Hampshire County Council (the basic space allocation for this service is 50Mb, INT21) and who would like additional space. Additional space is purchased in blocks of 50Mb. This facility does not include the use of any database query tools or cgi scripts, or any shell access to the database server.

Customers will need:

• Data Base hosted by Hampshire County Council

Additional Web Space

This service is provided for customers who have Web space hosting with Hampshire County Council (the basic space allocation for these services is 100Mb) and who would like additional space. Additional space is purchased in blocks of 50Mb.

• Web space hosted by Hampshire County Council
• Web design and publishing software
• Internet connection

Standard Web Search

The Hampshire County Council standard search service provides customers with the ability to search within their Websites. This service provides a simple search utility similar to the popular search sites in use on the Internet and displays the results in a standard format.

Customers will need:

• Website hosted with Hampshire County Council
• URL of the website
• Customers can also provide Meta-tags with keywords and descriptions that will assist in identifying pages during a search

Customised Web Search

The HCC customised search service provides customers with the ability to search within their websites just like the standard search service. The look and feel of the search pages can be customised by IT Services using a template other than the standard corporate template

Customers will need:

• Website hosted with Hampshire County Council
• URL of the Website
• Customers can also provide Meta-tags with keywords and descriptions that will assist in identifying pages during a search

Aliasing

Allows a Website to respond to more than one domain name. This service effectively adds an additional domain name on top of an existing domain, pointing to the same webspace.

Customers will need:

• Existing Web space or accompanying Web space order.

Alternatives

Customers can choose the cPanel based Web Hosting as an alternative to the IIS Web Hosting Service.

Transferring Do

main Names

Whilst IT Services does not itself charge for transferring Domain Names to, or from, our control there maybe associated charges depending on the specific details of the Domain Name concerned. IT Services will contact you to advise of any costs.

Minimum length

One year minimum contract, automatically renewable annually unless user requests cancellation.

Early termination and charges

No refunds are payable if the contract is terminated early, the contract charge is for a full year.

Delivery

Once the Web space has been setup, a member of staff will inform the customer via email of FTP username and password details.
