This service is provided for customers who would like to register an approved domain name and have Hampshire County Council manage that domain on their behalf.

Features and Benefits

• Enables a website to have a unique presence on the Internet.

Options

• No charge for departments using .hants.gov.uk domains.
• Departments of Hampshire County Council or partners where the majority of funding is provided by Hampshire County Council are required to host websites under the main Hantsweb domain (hants.gov.uk).
• Customers can choose a number of domain options depending on their requirements.
• Customers who wish to register a Domain Name, but not use it straight away, for example in the case of reserving a domain name, can choose to have IT Services 'park' that Domain Name for an annual fee. Please see Domain Parking in the options section of the ordering page.
• Domain Name Aliasing option allows customers wishing to have multiple domain names to ensure that they all point to the exact same locations on their original website.

Customers

This service is for customers who would like to register an approved domain name.

Pre-requisites

Any customer purchasing a domain name with the sole purpose of reserving it for later use must also purchase INT31- Domain Parking.

Domain names requested by internal Hampshire County Council departments will need to be authorised by the Hantsweb Team.

Inclusions

The following domains are available through Hampshire County Council

• .co.uk. org.uk (INT27) These are the most common names used by organisations
• .gov.uk .ac.uk (INT28) This domain is reserved for British governmental and Academic organisations. Applications to register sub-domains of this format are often subject to a lengthy and in-depth review process
• .uk.com uk.net .eu.com (INT29) British and European sub-domains of international top-level domains.
• .com .net .org .info (INT30) Domains of this format should be used by organisations or sites of international interest.
• .mobi (INT40) Domains of this format are for pages that are designed and published for use on mobile devices.

IT Services will check that the domain requested hasn't already been allocated and register it with the appropriate organisation.

Domain names remain valid for a period of two years upon registration, after which time you will be contacted by IT Services regarding renewing the registration of your domain name.

PLEASE NOTE: It is an important responsibility for you to maintain up-to-date contact information with IT Services in order for your domain name to stay registered. If IT Services are unable to contact you regarding renewing registration of your domain name, your domain will be released back to the Domain Name Registration Service and your website may become permanently unavailable.

The service excludes the following:

• Web space is not provided
• Email is not provided

• Customers can choose from four domain name types
• Customers purchasing a domain name with the sole purpose of reserving it for later use must also purchase Domain Parking (INT31)
• Customers with an existing domain name can transfer it to IT Services to take over its management.
• Domain Name Aliasing option allows customers wishing to have multiple domain names to ensure that they all point to the exact same locations on their original website.

Additional Information

Customers choosing a .gov.uk or a .ac.uk domain name should be made aware that the registration process for these domains is a manual and lengthy process. Therefore, we ask that when placing an order for such domains, that the customer provide us with as much information regarding the choice, naming convention and reasoning behind choosing the domain name. This may help to speed the registration process for these type of domains.

Transferring Domain Names

Whilst IT Services does not itself charge for transferring Domain Names to, or from, our control there maybe associated charges depending on the specific details of the Domain Name concerned. IT Services will contact you to advise of any costs.

Minimum Length

Domain Names remain registered for a period of two years, after which time you will be contacted regarding renewing the registration. If you have not maintained up-to-date contact information with IT Services, we may be unable to contact you when your domain name registration is due for renewal. This may mean loss of your domain name as it will then be released back to the Domain Name Registration Services.

Early Termination and Charges

You may request that a Domain name be released at any time within the two year registration period. However there are no refunds applicable to this service.

Delivery

• IT Services will register a domain name with the Registration Service using the details you provide at the ordering stage.
• Once completed, IT Services will email you to inform you that the domain name is available to you.
• If for any reason there is a problem with the chosen domain name, IT Services will contact you to ask you for or provide you with alternatives.
