Flash Fiction Competition
Celebrating 200 Years of "Pride and Prejudice"

28 January 2013 marks the 200th Anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice. Basingstoke Discovery Centre will be celebrating the date with a series of events and displays in early 2013.
To celebrate this milestone you are invited to write a 200 word ‘Flash Fiction’ Short Story on one of the following themes:
How I Got Jane Austen’s Autograph
Pride and Prejudice – An Alternate Ending
Conversations Overheard at the Double Bennett Wedding
Your story could be based on the novel Pride and Prejudice, your knowledge of Jane Austen or utterly out of the blue – get creative! The author of the story we like best wins a prize!
The winning story will be printed in the Basingstoke Gazette.
It will also be displayed here at The Basingstoke Discovery Centre over Easter.
- Stories must be a maximum of 200 words.
- Open to writers working, studying or living in Hampshire.
- Entrants must be 16yrs or older.
- Paper entries should be sent to Jess Hanslip at The Basingstoke Discovery Centre, 19/20 Westminster House, Festival Place, Basingstoke, Hants RG 21 7LS including name, address and phone number on the reverse.
- Emailed entries should be sent to jess.hanslip@hants.gov.uk subject heading ‘Jane Austen FFC’ including name, address and phone number.
- Closing date is by close of day on Monday 25 Feb 2013
- The winner and selected entries will be displayed at the Basingstoke Discovery Centre during the Celebration period.
- Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
*Flash fiction is a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity. There is no single definition of the length of the category. Some self-described markets for flash fiction impose caps as low as one hundred words, while others consider stories as long as a thousand words to be flash fiction.
