Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Mary Fagan JP

Dame Mary was appointed as Lord-Lieutenant in 1994 and is Her Majesty’s representative in the county, responsible for arranging and attending Royal Visits to Hampshire.

The Lord-Lieutenant is President/Patron of over 60 organisations in Hampshire and maintains a keen interest in all aspects of life in the county, including education, commerce, industry, the armed forces, voluntary and charitable groups.

Dame Mary was recently promoted to Honorary Rear Admiral in the Royal Naval Reserve. Dame Mary is also Honorary Colonel 457 Battery RA, Honorary Colonel 103 Battalion REME (V) – South East, Chancellor of the University of Winchester and Chairman of the Advisory Committee for Magistrates.

The Lord-Lieutenant was made a Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by The Queen in 2009.

In May 2012, Dame Mary was appointed as High Steward of Winchester by Winchester City Council, in February 2013, was granted the Freedom of the City of Southampton by Southampton City Council and in May 2013 was granted the Freedom of New Forest District by New Forest District Council.

The Lieutenancy is comprised of a Vice Lord-Lieutenant and an establishment of Deputy Lieutenants
