The Environment and Children’s Services departments of Hampshire County Council are running a project to reduce the current expenditure on the provision of home-to-school transport.
Currently most of this transport is provided by private sector operators. The project aims to provide a high quality in-house service while making savings that can be shared with schools.
Schools are offered a fully-funded leased minibus, plus a payment for driver’s hours for home-to-school to replace the existing contracted arrangements. Schools are also paid 50% of the net savings compared to the existing arrangements, which can be substantial.
Hampshire Transport Management has recently ordered a new 17 seater minibus for Micheldever C of E Primary School, via Alison Hull at Passenger Transport for this scheme.
